Bournemouth Marathon Festival
Distance – Marathon (26.2 miles)
Runner – Dan Strange
Approx # Competitors – 11,000 in over 6 events
Price - £48.94
What you have show for it – A purple finishers tshirt, a medal and some sore legs!
Course Description – Running as it should be. Beautiful coastal views, a chance to run the Boscombe and Bournemouth piers and a spectacular finish.
Reality of Course Description - Most of the course is fairly flat but does have some steep hills just past the halfway mark. The course itself takes you from Bournemouth AFC football stadium towards the coast. At this point there are plenty of loop backs along the beaches of Bournemouth including a couple that go down the piers.
Water and Fuel Stations – There are more than enough water stations along the route as well as multiple gel stations. An added bonus on the second half of the race is that there are lots of taps for drinking water along the sea front for tourists
Time of year - October
Why I chose this race – Big event with beautiful scenery
Organisation – GSI Events
Feedback Summary – The whole weekend was brilliantly organised with Bournemouth beach turning into a bit of a festival atmosphere. Due to there being events on the Saturday night it was nice to watch the races with a distinct smell of fish and chips (…. However this doesn’t count as carbing up so was avoided!)
Will I be back – I would recommend this race to anyone
Tips for next time – Make a weekend of it!
