Brighton marathon
Approx # Competitors – 15,000
Price - £55 - £80 depending on when you enter
What you have show for it – A typical race bag, great medal and a hangover
Course Description – coastal flatish marathon
Reality of Course Description – First 5 miles weave through the town and its narrow in some parts, so you really need to be at the front of the pen you should be in, because, as usual, there are lots of people in the wrong pens clogging up the race. Then its out onto the front, up and past the marina. Here you have a strange feeling of running up hill in both directions. Back into town and the half-way. Then out past Hove towards the turnaround. Finally at 21 miles you fight your way back along the front.
Water and Fuel Stations – Faultlessly placed. Although 2015 they changed to cups from bottles. If you are ok with cups that’s fine.
Time of year - April
Why I chose this race – I’ve done 2015, 2014, 2013. Wanted the set of medals.
Organisation – Faultless.
Feedback Summary – It’s a quite fast race, so good for a PB effort. The after party on the beach is awesome. It’s a great atmosphere and there’s probably not too many better places for an after party in the evening.
Will I be back – perhaps one day, but after doing 3 consecutive years I might run elsewhere.
Tips for next time – Learn what water strategy is on offer (cups/bottles) and practice.
