Course Description – The Robin Hood Half Marathon describes itself as "probably the most scenic city centre half marathon in the UK".
With fast road sections mixed with deer parks and the local university campus, the Robin Hood Half Marathon is unique and interesting road race, offering a good chance of achieving a PB.
The race starts next to the river Trent at Victoria Embankment. From there runners pass a number of Nottingham's historical and well known landmarks including Nottingham Castle, Trent Bridge cricket ground and Nottingham Forest Football Club. The route passes through Nottingham University within sight of the magnificent Trent Building before running around the lake and returning alongside the Experian building onto the tree-lined Victoria Embankment and on to the finish line passing through the flood defence cycle track overlooking the heritage race village.
Reality of Course Description - A couple of hills after the first mile but otherwise quite flat, a good PB course through the city of Nottingham, starting and finishing in the scenic Victoria Embankment Park.
Water and Fuel Stations – Water and Lucozade available every few miles throughout the course, as well as Toilet facilities.
Time of year – September.
Why I chose this race – It was my first Half Marathon, and I wanted to compete in a popular event, with a good atmosphere and it was the most suitable event for the time of year I was looking at.
Organisation – Ikano / Sweatshop.
Feedback Summary – Really enjoyed Nottingham as my first Half, achieved my target time and was a well organised course - although more signage would be handy at the race village to find the baggage drop area! Great atmosphere.
Will I be back – I would be happy to compete in this event again.
Tips for next time – as above, better organised and sign posted race village / baggage area.
