The rain had subsided on a cold but sunny Sunday morning at Delapre Abbey where the scene was set for two minutes silence to ponder on those who had given so much for their country.
Let’s go back 30 minutes to Northampton High School and to the point where the sports hall had emptied out except for LFR and after a gentle stroll we realised we had to run to make the start on time, only a mile or two away. Now who’s up for Cross country?
GO came the shout and the light brigade set off past the fallen tree to a single file, uphill track through the woods on a really technically challenging two lap, 5 mile course. A touch muddy with a few puddles, many roots and twists and turns, but yet a fabulous course – except for the sound of the A45 as Steph put it!
It was fantastic to see such a turnout, 23 awesome black, red and white tops went charging off in search of personal glory and with great success. No-one was injured, we all finished and we all had great fun, just ask James Smith (one of our latest recruits, who loved his first race). The men’s and ladies teams both finished 12th.
A trek back to HQ was worthwhile as rolls, tea and cake were on the menu.
A huge thank you goes to our team for organising and looking after us all.
Bring on Dunstable on Sunday 26th November when there is the little matter of Tottenhoe Knolls and green lanes to contend with. So let’s see you all out there again giving your all, but most importantly having fun as LFR do!
